In plain language: we use your information to provide the calorie-tracking service, keep your account secure, process food images, show progress, deliver notifications and manage billing. We do not sell your personal information.
1. Information we collect
Depending on how you use MealSnap, we may collect:
- Account information: name, phone number, email address, encrypted password, account role and verification status.
- Health and nutrition information: age or date of birth, sex, height, weight, activity level, nutrition goal, calorie target, macro targets, weight entries and meal history.
- Food images and scan data: images you capture or upload, AI analysis results, estimated calories and nutrients, scan status, billability and confirmation history.
- Device and notification information: device platform, device name, push-notification token, notification delivery state and notification preferences.
- Billing information: invoices, billable scan counts, pricing applied, payment status and transaction references. Full payment card details are not stored by MealSnap.
- Technical information: IP address, application logs, error reports, API activity and security-related events.
- Support information: support requests, categories, messages and replies.
2. How we use information
We process information to:
- Create, verify and secure your account.
- Analyse food images and return estimated nutrition information.
- Create meal records and calculate daily, weekly, monthly and custom-period progress.
- Track the free-trial and post-trial daily scan allowances, and determine billable scans made after the trial ends.
- Generate invoices, process payments and communicate payment status.
- Send scan, trial, billing, security and service notifications.
- Respond to support requests and investigate technical problems.
- Prevent fraud, misuse and unauthorised access.
- Improve reliability, accessibility and user experience.
3. AI food analysis
Images submitted for food analysis may be sent securely to our AI service provider, currently Google Gemini, so the image can be evaluated and an estimated result returned. AI results can be incomplete or inaccurate and should be reviewed before saving a meal.
If no recognisable food is found, the app may return a “No food detected” result. Every image processed during the active trial is free. After the trial, a successfully processed image may be billable even when no meal is created.
4. Payments and card information
bKash payments are processed through the secure bKash-hosted checkout. MealSnap does not collect or store your bKash PIN or OTP. We store only the payment status, amount and transaction references needed for billing, reconciliation and receipts.
Successful billable scans after the trial are grouped into a monthly invoice. The invoice is issued after the month ends and is payable within 24 hours. You do not need to link or save a bKash wallet in MealSnap; each invoice payment is confirmed securely through the bKash-hosted flow.
6. Data retention and security
We retain information for as long as needed to provide the service, meet legal and accounting obligations, resolve disputes and protect the platform. Retention periods may differ by data type.
We use measures such as encrypted connections, password hashing, access controls, secure authentication tokens and restricted access to service credentials. No online system can guarantee absolute security, so users should also protect their passwords and devices.
7. Your choices and rights
From the app, you can review and update profile information, manage notification preferences, view meals, scans, weight entries and invoices, and request account deletion. Depending on your location, you may also have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction or export of personal information.
Some records may need to be retained after account deletion where required for legal, fraud-prevention, security or accounting purposes.
8. Children’s privacy
MealSnap is not intended for children under 13, or a higher minimum age where local law requires it, without appropriate parent or guardian authorisation. If you believe a child has provided personal information improperly, contact support.
9. Policy updates
We may update this policy when the app, service providers or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated, and significant changes may also be communicated in the app.
10. Contact us
Questions about this policy or a privacy request can be submitted through the Support page or through Profile → Help & Support inside the mobile app.
